Carrie Towbes

Carrie is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of children and families. Raised in Santa Barbara, Carrie relocated back to the area in 2008 after nearly 30 years in the mid-Atlantic. Carrie is President of the Towbes Foundation, a philanthropic foundation that provides grants to more than 150 nonprofit organizations in Santa Barbara County focused on mental health and education. She currently serves on several local nonprofit boards.  

Carrie obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Delaware in 1992. Prior to obtaining her Ph.D., she received a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Colorado and a M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of Maryland. She taught neurodiverse elementary school children in Maryland. Carrie has worked in schools, hospitals, community mental health centers, and nonprofit agencies.  

Carrie’s work has allowed her to engage with a wide variety of advanced degree holders and she values the opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration.
